Sandra designs and executes each weaving. Sometimes she uses a cartoon( a drawing of what the woven design will look like), when doing a complicated design. Other times, she creates as she weaves. She uses a combination of tapestry techniques, including French Gobelin, Navaho, and Middle Eastern kilim rug weaving techniques. She uses linen, cotton, or wool warps, and uses a variety of tapestry and rug wools, some commercially dyed, and others custom dyed by Sandra. Most of the weft materials are wool, and wool/nylon blends. Sandra uses silk, rayon and cotton in the wefts, occasionally, as well. |
